Film Nominations for the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has just finished announcing their nominations for the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards, where they clearly had a lot of love for Martin McDonagh's "The Banshees of Inisherin," which led the pack with eight nominations, including Best Motion Picture (Drama), Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor (x2), Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score. This was every single nominations it was eligible for here. Following not too far behind was "Everything Everywhere All at Once," with six nominations.

Surprises included Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" making it into Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Director (Austin Butler was fully-expected to nab a nomination for Best Actor (Drama)), "Triangle of Sadness" popping up in Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Supporting Actress (Dolly de Leon), and the under-performing of Sarah Polley's "Women Talking," which only picked up two nods for Best Screenplay and Best Original Score.

It's interesting to see that most of the action is over in the Musical or Comedy Section this year, with the Best Motion Picture category getting stacked with great films including the top two nomination getters and "Glass Onion," which scored a pair of nods that also included Best Actor for Daniel Craig. "The Fabelmans" seems poised to take Drama pretty easily, but Comedy or Musical will be a strong fight between "The Banshees of Inisherin" and "Everything Everywhere All at Once."

The winners will be announced on January 10th. In the meantime, please see below for a list of today's film nominations:
