The Winners of the 23rd Annual Critics' Choice Awards for Film

Sally Hawkins and Doug Jones in "The Shape of Water"

The Broadcast Film Critics Association has just finished announcing their "Critics' Choice" awards for 2017, with Gullermo del Toro's "The Shape of Water" taking home the top prize for Best Picture. The film also received Best Director (Del Toro), Best Production Design, and Best Score.

The other big winner of the night was Martin McDonagh's "Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri," which took home Best Actress (Frances McDormand), Best Supporting Actor (Sam Rockwell), and Best Acting Ensemble.

While seeing "The Shape of Water" take home the top prize may have been just a little surprising, it was certainly a possibility, as the BFCA clearly loved the film from the way they showered it with multiple nominations. Aside from that, there isn't really anything out of the ordinary that happened, and it wouldn't' surprise me at all to see most of these go on to win their respective Oscar categories.

For now, we get a small awards season break, with the next major event being the Producers Guild of America Awards on the 20th, followed by the Screen Actors Guild Awards on the 21st, so be sure to check back to see how these important races play out.
