Nominations for the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards
The nominations for the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards have just been announced, and as usual, there were a few surprises to be found sprinkled throughout the 14 film categories.
Leading the pack was Guillermo del Toro's "The Shape of Water," which earned seven nominations, including Best Picture (Drama), Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Not far behind were Martin McDonagh's "Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri" and Steven Spielberg's "The Post" with six, including Best Picture (Drama), Best Director, and Best Screenplay.
I suppose the biggest shocker of all is finding Sir Ridley Scott's "All the Money in the World" making a great appearance with three nods (Director, Actress (Drama), and Supporting Actor). After the big shakeup of replacing Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer at the last second, it was unclear if the film would be done in time, but apparently the Hollywood Foreign Press was able to see it and enjoyed it quite a bit.
It was also interesting, though not altogether unexpected, to find "The Greatest Showman" pop up in three spots as well (Best Picture (Comedy/Musical), Actor (Comedy/Musical), and Original Song), especially since the film just started screening for critics. It's well-known that the HFPA loves musicals, so if they had gotten to see it, there was a strong possibility of it showing up here this morning.
Other than that, everything else was pretty much expected, or at least within the realm of possibility. Now we just have to wait until January 7th, 2018 to find out who the big winners are, so be sure to check back to see who takes home the gold.
