The Legend of Tarzan Comes to Digital HD September 20th and Blu-ray/DVD October 11th

The Legend of Tarzan Box Art

When David Yates' "The Legend of Tarzan" dropped in theaters back in July, it was not met well by critics or audiences to say the least. The main complaints against it appeared to be its sluggish pace and generic plot, which were indeed my main issues with the film, for it seemed to take forever to get going and even when it did, the filmmakers didn't seem to do very much with the material. However, at the very least, the film did have a pretty good cast that included Alexander Skarsgard as Tarzan, Margot Robbie as Jane, Christoph Waltz as the villainous Leon Rom, and Samuel L. Jackson as George Washington Williams, who becomes something of a sidekick to Tarzan.

Today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the home release of the film, declaring that it will first be released on Digital HD on September 20th, followed by the Blu-ray/DVD release on October 11th.

The following special features are to be included:

“The Legend of Tarzan” 3D Blu-ray and Blu-ray Combo Pack contains the following special features:

  • TARZAN™ REBORN

  • BATTLES AND BARE KNUCKLED BRAWLS

  • TARZAN™ AND JANE’S UNFAILING LOVE

  • CREATING THE VIRTUAL JUNGLE

  • GABON TO THE BIG SCREEN

  • STOP IVORY PSA

“The Legend of Tarzan” Standard Definition DVD contains the following special features:

  • TARZAN™ REBORN

  • BATTLES AND BARE KNUCKLED BRAWLS

  • TARZAN™ AND JANE’S UNFAILING LOVE

  • CREATING THE VIRTUAL JUNGLE

  • GABON TO THE BIG SCREEN

  • STOP IVORY PSA

It looks like we can be expecting mostly behind the scenes material, including looks at bringing the character back to the big screen, the fight choreography, and the CGI. It's a little unusual that there's no commentary from director David Yates, but presumably he would have been interviewed for at least one or two of these featurettes.

Those dates again are September 20th for Digital HD and October 11th for Blu-ray/DVD, so if you were one of those that enjoyed this latest iteration of Tarzan, be sure to take note.
