The Second Full-Length Trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Has Landed

With still four long months left to go, Disney has finally given us another full-length trailer for their upcoming "Star Wars" spinoff entitled "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," and as we can see, it was clearly worth the wait. Featuring plenty of new footage, it looks like it's shaping up to be an incredible adventure that will do justice to this expanding cinematic universe.

With a cast that includes Oscar nominee Felicity Jones ("The Theory of Everything"), Oscar winner Forest Whitaker ("The Last King of Scotland"), Mads Mikkelsen ("Casino Royale"), Ben Mendelsohn ("The Dark Knight Rises"), and Riz Ahmed ("Nightcrawler"), the film will deal with the Rebel's mission to steal the plans for the Empire's ultimate weapon, The Death Star.

As I've mentioned before, I'm particularly excited for this upcoming entry because, based on the premise, it's giving the franchise a chance to tell a part of the legacy that many have often wondered about, allowing the opportunity to throw in plenty of originality in the form of story and characters (something I felt "The Force Awakens" was lacking).

It will be particularly interesting to see how it turns out because the film's director, Gareth Edwards, has not proven himself to be particularly good with blockbusters as of yet. He delivered the dreadful "Godzilla" remake just a couple of years ago, but also has the intriguing "Monsters" under his belt, which earned him a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut for a British Writer, Director, or Producer. It's also worth noting that the film's screenwriter, Chris Weitz, is not very experienced in this area either, having penned such screenplays as "The Golden Compass," "About a Boy," and 2015's "Cinderella."

That being said, everything we've seen so far has looked incredible, so perhaps this was just the pair to bring this story to life. We'll finally get our chance to see if they were up to the challenge when "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" finally lands in theaters on December 16th, 2016.
