First Trailer for Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge Released

The first trailer for Mel GIbson's "Hacksaw Ridge" has been unveiled, and it looks pretty impressive to say the least. The film tells the story of a medic and conscientious objector (played by Andrew Garfield) during World War II who has to face multiple obstacles due to his refusal to kill, but who eventually gains recognition for the number of lives he bravely saved during battle.

After his breakout performance in "The Social Network," Andrew Garfield has only continued to impress with performances in films like "99 Homes" and "The Amazing Spider-Man" films (the latter movies might not have been that good, but he was an excellent Peter Parker), and it looks as though he continues to be in fine form here.

The film also marks the return of Mel Gibson to the director's chair after a ten year absence, which is strange given his tendency to make some pretty good films, including "The Passion of the Christ," "Apocalypto," and, of course, "Braveheart," for which he won an Academy Award for Best Director (and a second one for producing).

All-in-all, it looks like it'll be an intriguing film with a lot of dramatic heft, and it looks as though the studio might have a little confidence in it as well what with them giving it a release date close to awards season. It certainly looks like the kind of film that could drum up a few Golden Globe and Oscar nods come December, but we'll just have to wait and see if the film is as good as it looks when it's release on November 4th, 2016.
